What Is a Sin That Is Unto Death and a Sin That Is Not Unto Death? – 1 John 5:16-17

1 John 5:16-17 (KJV) If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will ask and give him life for those who do not sin unto death. There is sin unto death: I do not say that he should pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and sin is not death.

The same two verses from Greek MSS, transliteral version:

1 John 5:16-17 Someone can see that his brother is missing. [harmartano] (to sin), to go missing [harmartia] (sin) not against death he-will-give-life to-those-who-save-him. [harmartano] (sinners) lack nothing towards death [harmartia] (sin) is not true to death that I say he should ask. 17 All (all) unrighteousness (injustice) no (harmartia) (sin) is not unto death and is lacking (sin).

I must say at the outset that I reluctantly call this “anxiety” from the Scriptures, and that is not because it is actually a concern, but because of the fools and numbskulls who misinterpret it and twist it into all kinds of lies. the nonsense around it and from it is disturbing to those who know what it’s about or what we do there is talk about

But what are these people doing that bothers him so much? They simply say that there are some sins that lead to death and others that do not. Hello, sorry, I will write again, because this is a cracker? Yes I will: They interpret this as John saying that there are some sins that lead to death and other sins that do not. DOH!

Speaking of which there is There are two slightly different Greek words at play here, which means that two kinds of sin are being described, but unfortunately these differences are not translated into the English of the KJV (now there’s a surprise). However, we will deal with the simple issues first by asking this question: Does John the Anointed contradict what Joshua said at the beginning of His Word on the issue of sin?

Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV) And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat. 17 But do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Because the day you eat from it you will surely die.

OK, let’s be very clear about this, because if we sin, we die and we deserve to die, eternal death without new life in the first resurrection and whatever sin is, what is John talking about when he says there is mortal sin and non-mortal sin and more interestingly, there are who sins, but does not sin unto death? Is it okay to sin now?

As I have already pointed out, there are two kinds of sin here, and both are worthy of eternal death, but has John created a conundrum where one kind of sin is forgivable and the other is unforgivable? There’s a lot of weird people out there who think it is, but in truth, if we’re of the Truth, Yashua the Anointed, we know it can’t be because sin is always sin, so what’s going on and where are we going to be. Do you need to start to understand these verses correctly?

Here in John’s first epistle, 1 John 1, we learn that John’s letters were written to unbelievers when appropriate and believers when appropriate. Please review and study my article “1 John 1 – Chapter 1 of the Epistle of John” for all the details. Also, to make things easier, I’ll copy a verse or two here to make my point:

1 John 1:1-3 (KJV) From the beginning of the Word of Life, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and which we have handled with our hands; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen and testified, and we have shown you the eternal life which was with the Father and appeared to us;) 3 What we have seen and heard we declare to you. that you also may have fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. (emphasis mine)

Be careful here, because John declares, “from before,” and that means NEW NEWS, and he reveals this NEW NEWS that they can communicate with that congregation. In other words, these were people who were not yet in contact with the brothers of that congregation. They were sinners, lost and unsaved, and what was their sin??? Easy, they were mortal sins and known as the sins of “harmartia” which in Greek means to sin or to do evil or to break the Law (Commandments).

Paul confirms this:

Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages (harmartia sin) of sin is death; And God’s gift is eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ. (brackets mine)

Notice, eternal life is through Yashua the Anointed, obeying the Law based on fear, that is, being saved rather than being a slave under the Law.

1 John 1:7 (KJV) But if we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

If we walk in the light and who is the Light? Anointed Joshua is the Light. If we walk in the Light, then we fellowship with Joshua the Anointed and those who walk in the Light, we and they all sins are forgiven. Now what if these people guilt? Could their sins be sins unto death, i.e. ‘harmartia’ sins? God forbid, because now ALL their sins are forgiven and they live under Grace, so their sins are non-mortal sins. How did it happen, I hear you ask? Again, this is easy because by being born again they already have eternal life:

1 John 5:11 (KJV) And this is the document that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

Eternal Life is in the Son of the Father, that is to believe in Yashua the Anointed One and no one else or anything else. There is no eternal life for anyone who tries to save themselves in fear-based obedience to the law, or by obedience, or who thinks they can erase sin from their lives—none of them.

But what are these sins that do not lead to death? These are ‘harmartano’ sins, not the otherwise known ‘harmartia’ sins sins of “missing the mark”. or sins of “lack” rather than sins of obvious willful wrongdoing. The point is, are these ‘harmartano’ sins, sins? Yes, of course they are sins, but they are sins that can only be committed by a certain man or woman, a saved man or woman. Those who are lost and unsaved cannot commit sins that would be considered “removed sins.” i.e. ‘harmartano’ sins. How is that? It is easy because the Born Again believer now has the innate desire not to sin knowing that he has sinless perfection as a sinless being and is born of God. This is the condition he already has through salvation, trust and faith in the anointed Joshua. Hence John says elsewhere:

1 John 3:9 (KJV) Whoever is born of God does not sin; Because his seed remains in him and he cannot sin because he is born of God.

Hey, but that doesn’t make any sense to me, I hear you say. If someone born of God cannot commit sin, what is John talking about when he says that there are sins, even if they are not ‘harmartano’ sins, but ‘harmartano’ sins committed by those born of God? Again, this is simple because believers born of God still sometimes live in dead bodies of sinful sin. Even if we remain in these loathsome bodies of death, we will sin. That is not the point though, because the Born Again believer has an innate desire not to sin when he is a new creation – a new man or woman, perfect and sinless. An unsaved and lost man or woman has no such natural desires because they are still living in a LIVING body of sin. They will sin and apologize without any remorse, maybe a little remorse or physical sorrow, but that’s about it.

So, if we see our brother in the Faith committing a ‘harmartano’ sin, we should pray and ask the Father to show it to him, wake him up and bring him back to the straight and narrow path. On the other hand, if we see a lost soul sinning unto death, by all means pray for them to be called and saved by the Father, but don’t ask for their forgiveness, because the Father certainly won’t forgive. hear this prayer request.

I hope I have clarified this difficult, “concern” issue for everyone to understand.
