Tech Assimilation and Warehousing of Talent

The other day, a government representative called me about the information published on my website. I was questioned about its contents. The woman on the phone was completely uncommunicative, arrogant and ignorant of the answers to her questions.

Having been officially unemployed for over a year, the last thing I wanted was to jeopardize my UC bennies. The content of my website(s) is not only to provide in-depth information to visitors, but also to showcase my special skills and talents. The woman had none. The more defiantly he spoke, the more it became clear that he was not an IT person. His phone call ended with him assuring me of a follow-up contact from the investigator.

Not only does the content of the site speak for itself, but it is very clear that it is not for my personal gain. Although the income of family, friends and acquaintances is the only benefit of the businesses and activities of those individuals. The information posted is primarily intended to assist individuals with education, current and past events, and employment relationships. The site also helps me in my job search and in meeting prospective employers. The goal is to make an impression.

Computer Science Students of color are underrepresented in the IT workforce.

People of color with degrees are the most underrepresented group for IT jobs in the information technology industry. The result shows a serious divide for both higher education and the IT industry. The limited number of IT workers is not limited to people of color. Attracting and retaining a certain group of employers represents a major deficit for the information technology workforce. Underrepresented groups, such as African Americans, Latinos, women, and older workers, will benefit greatly from expanding information technology workforce needs. A 1998 report by Michigan State University professor Herman D. Hughes stated, “Studies have shown that if underrepresented groups were full participants in the IT workforce, there would be no IT workforce shortage.

“New Legislation, White House policy, and Cybersecurity Czar should help the situation. Lack of centralized leadership has hindered information sharing about vulnerabilities and uncertainty about government security policy, and more work needs to be done to open information silos,” he said. J. Nicholas Hoover of TechWeb.com.

Federal agencies have reported that various intelligence agencies have information about the September 9, 2001, attacks on the United States. Mr. Hoover also stated that no single agency has all the pieces needed for a complete information package. However, “since then, there has been progress from multi-agency information sharing agreements with the adoption of wikis and blogs.” Although gaps and gaps remain, terrorism-related information sharing has become the government’s broad approach to information sharing.

“Data sharing mandates and training programs have been implemented by less than half of affected agencies,” says Hoover. The Markle Foundation says “old habits die hard!” All agencies are required to disclose details of their stimulus spending as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This includes all participating states and jobs created. The Treasury Department seeks consistency with the government’s broad treasury accounts on financial statements. According to Hoovers’ report, the overhaul within the White House Office of Management and Budget is expected to create unified financial management systems in its reform efforts.

The question arises, why systems that no longer work with each other remain normal within government institutions? “Many agencies insist on maintaining their independence and face technical barriers to sharing information,” Hoover notes. He points to the Ministry of Defense as an example. Military units resist using the Defense Information Services Agency (DISA) or the Defense Business Transformation Agency (BTA).

As noted by the Government Accountability Office, Siled Information has proven to be DOD’s biggest challenge as the departments lag in modernizing their business systems. More than 3,000 different financial systems are replaced and/or connected to 12 ERP systems (enterprise resource planning, a business management system that integrates all aspects of a business, including planning, production, sales, and marketing. As it becomes more popular as an ERP methodology, it provides business managers with inventory control, order software applications have emerged to help them implement ERP in business activities such as tracking, customer service, finance, and human resources.) with a budget of one billion dollars a year in spending. Countless interfaces require communication of reconciliation errors within these government systems.

“It’s clear that the future of information technology is inextricably linked to how well students are represented,” said Bob Reed, Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at Cingular Wireless Systems, Mr. Fred Green Jr. . “The road to success begins long before a potential employee completes a job application.”

This reporter’s collegial research spans over 10 years. of Management and Technical Studies at Philadelphia Community College, Philadelphia PA beginning Fall 1996, and with the Berean Institute College of Business Administration and Computer Science, Accreditation: Accreditation Commission for Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, etc. The next institution is an “HBCU” (Historically Black Colleges and Universities).

Three HBCU Campuses were invited. The three historic colleges were Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA; North Carolina Central University, Durham; and the University of Florida in Tallahassee. Business students from three campuses were tasked with developing, implementing and marketing a plan to reach their campus peers and faculty membership. Cingular Wireless Systems has solved that problem, Mr. Green says. Awards include scholarships, grants and company products. Cingular’s challenge provides business students with the opportunity to skillfully balance teamwork concepts and individual creativity with theorizing skills. (The results of the study will be announced later).

Employers are constantly looking for new skills, training and learning. Why is it so difficult for IT and BI (Information Technology and Business Intelligence) students to get the jobs and career paths they seek? (Especially within government agencies!) Why is hiring for entry-level positions riddled with red tape when it’s obvious that the applicants have the skills and abilities to perform their IT tasks and responsibilities?

IT staff shortage? Please!

IT professionals usually do not have their skills in a loose format. They (we) have to keep up with information trends and changes. We are constantly encouraged to pursue our educational pursuits even though the costs have risen to heights beyond the reach of the common man. We are advised to create and maintain online profiles and resumes that will attract the attention of employers. We are encouraged to display our skills and talents online, only to have them scrutinized, mocked, disrespected, misread and misunderstood. Our competition does not belong in our country, and yet we are constantly encouraged while being discouraged from achieving our government’s goals – “The American Dream!”

The competition is constantly producing home-grown (and not home-grown – but – home-grown) trained and skilled talent who are constantly pushing their IT products to greater heights! That particular talent (in most cases) does not withstand the pressures of financial stress, even considering the medical staff, the cultivated talent is destined to serve the government it calls home… the motherland: two years for at least one. The competition is smiling back at us. We sit and say “IT manpower shortage!”

The competition goes home with the trophy and we place sixth and seventh in the world competition for IT and BI platform(s). Browse Beta Max, VCRs, Home Computer(s), Electronics and more. Isn’t it time to ride high in the saddle, to be first, to lead? We did it with the Presidency, didn’t we? So why can’t we find a way to fill the “IT workforce shortage” and utilize all of our talent… in the Land of the Free… in the Home of the Brave? Access is the only way to complete and pronounce freedom and break free from our technological shackles. We don’t have to settle for the second year either!

Are employers looking at your website, profile? Are they drawing the wrong conclusion? Is the hired contractor/vendor up to date with the current challenges of the IT world and its technologies? Can the investigator understand simple IT Language and its meanings and symbols? Or once again “Big Brother” announces who is really in control?

What’s on your website?

Until next time.
