Restaurant Data – Bad Body Language

According to the results of a recent survey, your actions speak louder than your words, which shows the importance of body language in the communication process. Food and beverage is a service related sector and hence communication plays a very important role here. So, whether you are part of restaurant management or own a food and beverage business, you need to make sure that your employees are well equipped with excellent body language.

The problem on the flip side is that if you can’t work on your employees’ body language, your business image can suffer. Everything from the facial expression to the posture of the body says a lot about the owners and management of the restaurant. If you want to save your food and beverage business from being embarrassed by your employees’ obnoxious body language, you’ll need to equip them with the right kind of training.

Before your employees learn what to do from the appropriate restaurant training guide or service SOP, it’s critical that you make them aware of what to avoid.

3 factors can determine a person’s body language, these are:

Head and face, Hands and arms, Body and legs.

Head and Face: This deals with facial expressions and the way your employees project themselves. There are a number of things your service staff should avoid, including yawning, humming, chewing gum, burping or sniffing, sucking teeth, or even rolling eyes or heads. These are bad manners and can annoy or irritate your guests.

Hands and Arms: Many people are disgusted if your employees use their hands and arms for purposes such as picking their noses, scratching, filing or cleaning nails. Even if hands are in pockets, they can look casual and unprofessional.

Body and Legs: Leaning your body against the wall or tapping your feet continuously can be quite distracting to guests and also represent impatient and rude body language. Stretching is another example of bad body language that your employees in the food and beverage industry should definitely avoid.

By avoiding the mistakes mentioned above, you employees can avoid all possible problems that your guests do not like. At the same time, you should be able to train them to match the pace of the guests. Work, conversation and presentation style should not make the guest feel rushed or complain about slow service.

You need to be very careful that your employees have the right body language so that your guests feel understood and respected and appreciate the experience. In the end, you can be sure that with this feeling, your guests will repeat the experience at your food and beverage venue.
