Connective Thinking – Creativity Techniques

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination covers the world.”

Albert Einstein

Imagination and creativity are two related terms, the former leading to the latter. In English and most European languages, the etymological root of the word “creativity” comes from the Latin creatus, meaning “to grow.” How does this work?

The human brain works through connections; new ideas are created by combining ideas and so on. Unfortunately, modern life has led to mechanistic thinking, which means that we are governed by habits, automatic associations and responses. Stuck in fixed thought patterns, we have fewer and fewer connections, and as a result, our imaginations don’t work and poor creativity tries to tap into our artistic thirst.

“3 Imaginary Boys”

“Just as our eyes need light to see, so our minds need ideas to imagine.” Napoleon Hill

People have been trying to discover tools for creative thinking for centuries. Here are some ideas:

“Creativity is about inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking the rules, making mistakes and having fun.”

Mary Lou Cook

“Anyone can look for fashion in a boutique or museum for history. A creative researcher looks for history in a hardware store, and fashion in an airport.” Robert Wieder

“Creativity, as the saying goes, is about rearranging what we know to find what we don’t know.” George Keller

It seems clear that many artists must be involved in unlocking creative thinking in one way or another! How is this possible? Sure, talent can be inherent, but creativity isn’t something you’re born with. Most creative people learn to be creative. It is actually a logical procedure and a cross-linking of key ideas/sounds, and the way to bring it out is of course a state of mind that can receive the vibrations of inspiration. Creative inspiration doesn’t come alone, but it comes with the gifts of seeing things differently, seeing different things, creating multiple options, breaking the rules, thinking and connecting, knowing how you think, and playing what-ifs. the question “how is all this possible”?

Creative block

Unlike many phenomena in psychology, there is no standardized measurement technique for creativity. This is more of a personal procedure. Here are some ways to refresh your imagination and rekindle your creative spirit.

Do something different

Adhering to the same means of creation can lead to confusion. So why not incorporate a few different techniques/equipment into your art, or a completely different art?

Run away from yourself

Get in your car and go somewhere you never planned to go, observe the streets and find signs that you think will lead you somewhere. Record the sounds you hear and any unusual shapes or events you encounter. Start a conversation with someone you don’t normally talk to, eat an unusual meal, and wait to see what happens.

Talk or play with children

A very strong inspiration tip mixes with children. We have all been children and we know that we used to think differently. So mess around with kids, ask them anything without fear of being misunderstood, here’s a tip, you’ll be surprised!

Dada registration

Take up a hobby you never thought you’d be interested in. This new type of knowledge causes neurons to form new connections in your brain, creating memory pathways that expand your life experience and expand your worldview. Even if it’s a pottery class!! The more trivial the better.

Learn to ignore your inner critic

The subconscious role is to limit and prohibit change among others. Preconceived ideas, habits, and desires get stuck, and anything new is met with doubt, indecision, and ultimately delay or omission. The next time you have a fantastic idea and start shooting/writing/composing and find yourself craving Chinese takeout, cleaning out your closet, or calling your grandma, tell your subconscious to start CUTTING and DOUBLING! Having a little bad subconscious awareness of this behavior, you can be aware of when it happens, and above all, you can be sure that it is not the real “you”, but a deep-rooted mechanism inside you.

Dare to be a fool

Try to be as stupid as possible and see what happens next. You never know what your creations will become when you make them unusual or weird on purpose. Write music you’ve never written, draw pictures you hate, and write a piece of poetry/novel that critics will die after reading. You never know…
