The same conversation held over the phone can be quite different. All you need there are excellent communication skills and a persuasive attitude, with the voice that naturally fits. And persuading people in writing is another entirely different set of rules. Persuasive written communication requires an excellent command of language and a way of writing that appears advantageous.

One of the things that connects every form of persuasive communication is confidence. Lack of it and you will be on a fast track to nowhere. Too much and you will come across as fanatical. These are also not qualities that any audience appreciates, so you have to strike the right balance from the start.

You need to understand basic communication skills in order to build on them effectively. Your form of communication must contain substance and must be worded in such a way that your audience will sit up and take notice. And you must be knowledgeable about your subject.

Verbal persuasive communication, although it requires the use of body language, is probably one of the easiest forms. Your audience can participate there and then and you can also measure the impact you have and, if necessary, change the course of your communication. Written persuasive communication is probably the most difficult form because you have to make that impact right away and rely on it being good enough to have the desired effect.

Persuasive communication is part of everyday life. Some are better at it than others, but the skill can be learned by anyone and can take you a long way in life. History is littered with great orators who reached the pinnacle of their careers simply through the art of persuasive communication. And these people are remembered, not just for who they were or are, but for what they said.
